A relationship with God is not based on feelings. Rather it’s based on faith and a real honest commitment to surrender your heart and life to your Lord and Savior. If you gauged your spiritual growth on how you felt each day, it would be pretty discouraging because feelings change like the wind. They come and go and run hot and cold! God created you with the ability to experience the whole range of emotions, but it doesn’t define how much you love Him. There are times during prayer that you can feel God’s presence and then other times when you may not. However, it doesn’t mean that you are doing something wrong or not praying in the right way or that God isn’t listening to your prayers. It’s not feelings that will draw you closer to Jesus, but rather faith and a knowledge of His unending love! God loves you, even when you’re having a bad day and just don’t feel close to Him! He understands and knows your heart. So the next time you’re struggling with feelings, ask God to draw even closer to you so that you may feel His presence.
